Day 6: Community Recs
[personal profile] sharpiefan already recced nearly all the good DW comms that I know about*, in particular [community profile] anything_aos, which I was going to recommend in particular regarding the anything part of the name. You might think the audience for your fabulous Avengers/SGA crossover set in the Age of Sail would have an audience of maybe two (you and your best fandom-friend you roped into betaing it) but I kid you not, at [community profile] anything_aos you will find more readers for it. If it has to do with Age of Sail, they are all over it, no matter what :-)

The other comm here on DW I wish to mention is [community profile] where_away, a place we started using at [community profile] mandc_read for sticking quotes we found particularly memorable, and wanted a place to record exactly which book where it came from. This comm is pretty quiet and I expect its potential could be vastly expanded.

mandc_library is a comprehensive listing (well, almost comprehensive :-) of Aubreyad fic. That's right, pointers to all the fic in the fandom available at one place! (It's lovely what you can do in a small fandom, isn't it? :-) Currently updated only on LJ right now. I am acting as the librarian, and I need to update the listings with all the fabulous fic from Advent and ongoing, then we can bring it all here to DW yay! In the meantime, if you are newcomer to Aubreyad fandom, check out mandc_library and find all kinds of amazing fic :D

Finally, I will give a nod to [personal profile] spook_me, a multi-fandom prompt comm. Once a year they provide prompts for horror fics, there being never enough horror about for the mods there, evidently. This year I participated, primarily because they used images from fairy tales - which I LOVE fairy tales! and it was an amazing challenge - I loved the images I received as prompts, and really enjoyed writing an Aubreyad fic for it. Even though I have never written horror and actually have very little interest in the genre. Always good to stretch! For next year I have no idea what they plan, but I will tune in to find out :-)

*I don't know any of the Sherlock comms on DW. If anyone wants to point me to a good one, I am open to suggestions :-)

Day 7: Life Outside Fandom
Most of you know I am a parent to two very active school-aged boys, who keep me busy. My husband and I adopted them about six years ago, when they were 3 and 5. Before that we were foster parents for about three years. So I consider my profession to be "foster/adoptive parent". It's a very specialised calling. You have no idea until you get into it. No idea.

For years I enjoyed quilting, but that involves too many pins and needles and scissors left about to do while the boys are around (which is all the time). So recently I took up knitting, actually because my nine-year-old wanted to learn it. It's been fun! Knitting needles are too blunt to do any real damage with, unless you try really really hard. Which my sons have found out. By trying really really hard *g*

Yay, quilting! I can pick your brainz when I need to, I hope. ;)
I am new to it, but enjoying it a lot. I know a teeny-tiny bit of knitting. I haven't tried it in years, but I remember it being very relaxing and satisfying.

I wanted to say about [personal profile] spook_me, that even if the image prompts don't sound like they would interest you one year, there's never an obligation to use them anyway. Just pick a "monster" from the list, or let the mods assign one to you, and write whatever you want! Maybe it will be the next Zombreyad! *g*

Mine were perfection this year! And for a previous year, one image (with text) gave me a wonderful pun to use. *g*

Yup, you can always sign up, see what images you get, and then quietly drop out if they don't appeal. It's the most stress-free thing evah.

Yay knitting! It seems our needles are sharper than yours.

Also, it is really hard to hurt yourself with a crocheting hook. :)

I am thrilled to hear this. There are a lot of things that can be crocheted, even mitts. :)

Oh, you knit too! I'm learning lots of things about you (and everyone else in my circle) this week.

I read a novel once which used a knitting needle as a murder weapon.... lethal these handcrafts I tell you, lethal! ;-D

Will you be knitting any brown wool onesies? *thinks of forthcoming mandc_read chapter*

One shouldn't laugh *g* Good luck with the crochet hooks! (and, generally, with the child-proofing of your house...)
