Fandom Snowflake Challenge Day 4 and 5: Wishlist and Exploration

Day 4's challenge was to create a fandom wishlist. Well, mine's no secret, I prompt for this stuff every chance I get *g*

All Aubreyad:
1. Fanart of Jack Aubrey that reflects all the scars and other wounds on his face, and what remains of his ears ;-) Most art makes him look too pretty - so sorry to say! He is supposed to be good-looking, despite the scars I suppose, although no Adonis, and a cheerful open face made for smiling :-) I do appreciate the artists who make him on the generously-sized side ;-)

What would be wonderful is a portrait in the style of the period, maybe something Sophie commissioned and made him sit still for *g* Though I suppose a portrait like that would typically be full length, and I'm most interested in his face.

2. More fic about the women and girls in the series, especially ones from their POV.

3. Someone to babysit my kids, so I have more time for fannish activities :D

(I can't think of a single thing needed in the already ginourmous Sherlock fandom that I couldn't just do myself anyway, if I wanted it that bad :-)

Day 5's challenge is to branch out in fandom to areas you don't consume - genres or pairings or whatnot. Well, I'm already a pretty voracious consumer of fanworks of all types, but am planning to start listening to podfic, and even record one! So there! :-) And if I do manage to make the podfic, it will be a wish granted to Day 4 post, so how 'bout that? :D

I feel that apart from what's left of his left ear and one or two scars near the hairline, Jack's face is pretty unscared. Nothing like dear Thomas. Now, the body is something different. You really only want a nude illo of Jack, hm?

"Most interested in the face", she says... I can see your thoughts are elsewhere :-D

Oh, I am sure I would not say no to a friendly open smile from my favourite slightly badger-greyed post-captain, RN. Also, I do not believe her thoughts are for his face only ;)

Well, then I will have to read HMSS carefully when we come to the book. *g*

Wasn't it tootsiemuppet who had done a lovely illo of Jack in the water?

You are awesome! (When you start listening, don't start with mine. Seriously. They're shit and will put you off. Try one of the other M&C fics on jinjurly's site, there are several readers.)

You said you have a love for the ladies and that you wanted to get into podfic. Have you listened to A Multitude of Counsellors by [personal profile] chestnut_pod? It's a Molly-centered fic about her being the Boss in Forensics.

If you'd like to listen, you can start at the Audiofic Archive and [community profile] amplificathon to find podfics in all fandoms. A lot of the podfic community is heavily based on Twitter, if that's something that interests you.

There is a portrait in canon! I have a recollection of it being in the drawing room at Ashgrove, with Jack wearing his order of the bath and grenades of some kind exploding behind him. But I'm also pretty sure that was full length. Either that or I'm mixing it up with the self-portrait of the non-flying pilot with the drinki problem from the Airplane movie...!

I honestly can't remember now... If it is canon it was done sometime after Jack was made Commodore, but it could just as easily be fanfic.

*beams at the dancing*

edited to add- I'm writing you some fic about Queeney by the way. Lord Keith is in it too, of necessity, but it's really about Queeney. It's not likely to be long so there may a 2nd part which is likely to almost exclusively feature women! Now all i need to so is make Sharpie a marines icon and my good deeds for this month are done....

You're still on LJ so I think you've seen [livejournal.com profile] amaraal's sketch of Jack but just in case you haven't... Sketch of Jack

Have you ever seen his cousin the cricketer Martin Crowe? I saw an interview they gave together and just thought 'There! That's more like what Jack Aubrey looks like!' RC is no dainty little thing but Martin seemed both broader and taller, properly blonde and ruddy faced, positively leonine. He made RC look.... hmm, difficult to find the right words without sounding like I'm dissing RC when I don't mean to do that - but the lesser star than his cousin, overshadowed and also more finely featured. If they were both ship's captains and you could only follow one in to battle I would be more drawn to following Martin - and I never thought I'd say that!

He's a bit better looking when he's moving rather than just a still shot - besides, Jack's no Adonis you know, and in the interview I saw Martin was laughing a lot. I'm not saying he's a perfect fit or anything, but he's closer...
