I remember reading astolat's original. Good stuff... very long for fanfic, but good stuff.
And I know what you mean about wp counting weirdly - I swear that mine counts my ~ ~ ~ spacers as three words - not to mention the HTML tags getting counted as words, too. I always seem to lose words between posting on DW and posting on the AO3 due to that. :D
